Our projects are either time and materials or we will bid out the project. Often it is actually less to do time and materials.
First we meet and greet you, and your project. At this meeting we define the project as much as possible. Once clear on the scope we develop a design plan. Planning is essential for a well organized project. When ideas are clear, time is well spent!
Education and/or training we have
We have the Laticrete pro tile installation training, we are EPA lead safe certified, OSHA 10 safety training, Burlington EMP, and ASHI Home Inspection Training, and weatherization and training.
How we got started
In 2009 Johannes Ziegler started JZ Carpentry. Before going out on his own, he worked with security system installation and maintenance. During High School he worked with a Builder on new construction. While in college he worked in a high end pool table manufacturing company, building and installing pool tables. After that he worked in a sculptural metal shop run by an architect and helped him remodel his home. We serviced super high end homes and projects, installing the custom crafted wrought iron we made in the shop. He worked for a property management company in Burlington for a time, eventually deciding to work on his own doing home repair work. This home repair work evolved into the full Gut and Reno projects. Today renovations and new construction are the bread and butter. We love remodeling kitchens and bathrooms, we love additions, and the small new home construction project.
Types of customers we have worked with
We love doing kitchen and bathroom remodels. We enjoy doing tile back splashes, building custom furniture, and installing hardwood floors, and the custom tiny home, or new construction. It is our goal to help you make your home more usable, more comfortable, healthier and more livable. We can set up a maintenance schedule to look after your property when you are away. Some clients have come to Burlington and been befuddled with Burlington’s difficult permitting requirements. Part of our job is to help you understand how to work with Burlington or any Chittenden municipality. Burlington is quite alright when you learn how to work with them. Our mission is to provide great service at a fair price. We thank you for looking at what we offer, and look forward to your new projects.
A typical project we recently worked on and how long it took
We recently did a kitchen and bathroom project, it took 4 weeks to complete.
Advice for someone looking to hire a contractor
Work with a contractor you communicate well with and enjoy, they will be in your space creating havoc, mess, and noise. Great communication is key to a great project.
What questions should you ask yourself about your project?
Consider what you like, and think about how you want to feel in your space. Do you want an uplifting or grounding space? A relaxed or energetic environment? Think about your budget and do some research online and ask your friends how much their similar project cost. Many folks have no idea how much skilled work really costs. Part of our job is to properly educate our clients expectations and experience. Get a few bids on your project, it will give you a better idea of a fair price. Get a feel for what personalities you might like to work with. Get clear on your ideas before you have a contractor over, if you need help with ideas we can help with design. Remodeling is a rare experience you only get to do it a few times in your life, make it a fun adventure for you and your family, explore and play!
